Submitting a child welfare notice

A child welfare notice is a notice regarding a child whose situation requires a service needs assessment and evaluating the child’s need for protection. The person submitting the notice does not have to assess the need for child protection, but being concerned about a child's situation is a good enough reason to submit a notice. Child welfare notices must always be submitted without delay. Anyone who observes or becomes aware of circumstances that make them think that a child’s need for protection should be assessed can submit a child welfare notice. In addition, almost any position that requires some form of contact with children obliges the employee to report such circumstances. If you are unsure of whether you should file a child welfare notice, you can ask for advice from the services for families with children without revealing the child's identity.
